Hi Matthias,

About 3 years ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding the
maintainer scripts not checking whether the config files were modified
by the user. Did you reproduce this problem recently? If not, I will
close this bug in the next weeks.

Hi,

I just checked on an installation of "testing" (last update around Jan 07), with "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" (I am not using xfree86 anymore). The program writes to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but copies the old config to a timestamped file and gives a warning about it.
Thats probably the best thing it could do :-)
Very nice, this is obsoletes my wishlist entry.

Best regards,

Matthias

PS: I also tried "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" but it just quits after a few seconds.
