The buggy changes are more likely between these tags, I think:

cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg co -r XORG-6_8_2 driver/xf86-video-ati
cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg co -r XORG-6_8_99_902 driver/xf86-video-ati

I don't know CVS well to figure out the actual dates of those.

The autoconf stuff was added after 6.9.0, wasn't it?

I don't see how that can be avoided in this case, as the tree was
still monolithic when these bugs were introduced.
