Bug#346486: Same problem

I have the same problems after I updated from 6.8.2. to
6.9.0.dfsg.1-4. Like the OP I also have an old ATI Radeon 7000. I did
a backtrace which looked exactly like the one Seiden Tiger already posted. I
also had no luck using the SWCursor option, but the backtrace looks a
bit different:

I hope this helps a bit, for now I switched to the VESA driver.
