Bug#332548: Summary



There seem to be two separate (but possibly related) problems occuring with the radeon driver:
For some people, upgrading from xorg 6.8.2 to xorg 6.8.99 or 6.9.0 causes the second display to go blank.
For other people, the same upgrade causes the second display to be a garbled clone of the first display.

Debian Bugs 345509 and 332548 seem to be reporting blank displays.
Debian Bug 345839 seems to be reporting a garbled display.
There is also an upstream bug report related to a garbled display:

It sounds like switching to MergedFB mode or the fglrx drivers fixes the problem for everyone - the bug only surfaces when trying to use the two card outputs independently (for example, by configuring two Device sections for the two outputs of the card, then using Xinerama).  Unfortunately, MergedFB mode isn't a practical option for many people.


I, personally, am having the garbled display problem.  xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log are attached.  I tried removing the dri and glx module Load lines, and setting a few options:

None of these helped any.

If I have time, I'll try some revisions in CVS between 6.8.2 and 6.9.0 to see if I can find when the problem appeared, but this could take a while.
