Bug#246642: Workaround

I don't think this is necessarily a bug in the new xserver-xfree86.
I had this same problem, and tried downgrading xfree86. After successfully downgrading I still got the same problem.

A little poking around showed that kernel-image-2.6.5-1-k7_2.6.5-3_i386.deb
came in on the same day as the xfree upgrade. Dropping back
to an older kernel fixed the problem (even after upgrading
to the latest xfree86, the problem stayed fixed on the older
kernel).

I suspect this is actually a bug in kernel 2.6.5-3.
