As I mention in the first part of the forwarded e-mail, I'm doubtful
whether I've a bug but my efforts and asking debian users for help has
not got me any farther so maybe it's bug? Advice & suggestions
welcome.

Godfrey Harrison

I've been installing woody from CDROMS and on the larger of two hard
drives on my computer - an i868 one.
The smaller hard drive has Red Hat 7.3 running with gnome working fine
there. After I've logged in, on debian, & put startx xwindow doesn't
start; the final few lines of the screenfuls of text are [with bits in
[ ] being my comments] :

(II) I810: Driver for Intel i810
            chipset: i810, i810-de100, i810, i815
(--) Assigning device section with no busID to primary device
     (EE) No device detected
Fatal server error: no screens found

Look for more in /var/log/XFree86.0.log [That file is an
     attachment to this e-mail]
     Pls. report problems to submit@bugs.debian.org [I don't
believe there's any bug; I just haven't got it right]
X connection to : 0.0 broken (explicit kill or server
     shutdown)
     Check http://www.XFree86.Org/cvs [I did but I couldn't
     find anything I could use]

The other attachments to this are dmesg, and the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
file from the (most recent) debian session with me making a mess of
starting X.

I'll be glad of help to solve this - well, of course, I will: my
Cantonese is nothing like good enough to get help here in Macau easily.
                                      Godfrey Harrison
