Subject: Using pc104, xkb I can't load the dvorak keymap

Package: xlib6g
Version: 3.3.6-2

Using xlib6g as shipped, I can't use the xkb dvorak keymap. This may
be due to using the following lines in my XF86Config, which I use so
that one of my "windows" keys can serve as a compose key:

  XkbModel "pc104"
  XkbLayout "us"
  XkbVariant "pc104compose"

Transcript:

xanadu:~$ setxkbmap dvorak
Error loading new keyboard description

Adding the following line to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/rules/xfree86
seems to solve the problem - although I know nothing about xkb (where
are the docs?) and found this by pure experimentation, so it may not
be optimal...

  pc104 dvorak = en_US(pc104)+dvorak(basic)

I have a similar fix for the mac, if this is useful to anyone...

This bug has been around forever (who uses dvorak? :), but I'm getting
bored of patching this file all the time...

my system: debian potato, linux 2.3.40 SMP, i686.

Thanks,
Brendan

Hi,

the following settings work with XFree86 4.3:
    Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
    Option "XkbLayout" "dvorak"
    Option "XKbOptions" "compose:menu"
I am closing this bug.

Denis
