A upgrade from xfree86 (4.2.1-12.1) 

 deb http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2003/10/04/debian

to sarge's xfree86 (4.3.0-7)

 deb ftp://ftp2.de.debian.org/debian sarge

runs fine.
