Hi,
I did an apt-get update (debian testing) yesterday, March 30th 2004. After
downloading all the packages, I had to do some preconfigurations (in
dselect),
and I was asked to choose if my graphics card is a framebuffer device or
not. I just left the default answer.
Since then, I'm unable to start XFree86. After typing startx, the server
crashes saying:
Fatal server error:

Hi,
please use aptitue or at least 'apt-get -u dist-upgrade' for bigger upgrades.
Always check if there are packages that are being held back...
from your logs:

I suspect, your xserver-xfree86 package still is 4.2.x, upgrade that one too!
