Hi Kristen

I have a Dell M65 running Debian wheezy and the keyboard does have a dimmer
function which works under wheezy. So on some models these things can be made
to work but it comes down to system configuration and generally speaking that
means dealing with the X11 config for your keyboard.

I may have been fortunate that Dell M65 appears in
/usr/share/X11/xkb/geometry/dell, /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst and
/usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev.xml so you could hunt in the /usr/share/X11/xkb
directory for anything about your particular Apple keyboard and configure your
system to use that config.

You may need to also look for config details for your screen as well.

I also run the acpid deamon to control system/screen sleep mode after a period
of inactivity.

I don't know what particular keyboard you are using, but my M65 screen
brightness is controlled by a combination of keys so you might want to ensure
what the situation is with your keyboard.

Hope this helps and please let us know how you get on.

Lesley
