I'm on the SPI board and am a relatively newcomer (at least compared
to some of the other people involved) and I'm aware of this
perception. I think this is one of a few perception problems that SPI
needs to battle.

While there is grain of truth to your perception, I think that the
lack of new energy and new blood SPI is one of SPIs greatest
limitations and problems.

I think that leading by example and creating role models is going to
the easiest and most effective thing. I encourage folks from Debian
women to show up to SPI board meetings (next one is later today), sign
up as contributing members on the SPI website, answer calls for help,
join a SPI committee or two, and run for the SPI board next time there
is an election. :)
