Bug#1125687: ITP: joystickwake -- joystick-aware screen waker

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Forest <forestix@gaga.casa>
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-devel@lists.debian.org, forestix@gaga.casa

* Package name    : joystickwake
  Version         : 0.5.1
  Upstream Contact: Forest <forestix@gaga.casa>
* URL             : https://codeberg.org/forestix/joystickwake
* License         : MIT (Expat)
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description     : joystick-aware screen waker

Linux gamers often find themselves unexpectedly staring at a blank
screen, because their display server fails to recognize game controllers
as input devices, allowing the screen blanker to activate during
gameplay. This program works around the problem by suppressing screen
blankers while joystick activity is detected.

Other attempts to address this problem include Caffeine, which only
works in X11 and only for full-screen games, and Feral Interactive's
GameMode, which comes with extra baggage and blocks screen savers even
when a game is left paused with no user input.

I am the author of Joystickwake, and have been maintaining its Ubuntu
packages in a PPA for roughly a decade. However, since Debian is now my
primary distribution and I don't expect that to change any time soon,
packaging Joystickwake directly for Debian seems more sensible.
It would also relieve the disappointment that I recently noticed on social
media over Joystickwake's absence from Debian-based distros other than
Ubuntu.

I do not plan to maintain it from within a team; I think I can handle it
on my own.
