  Description : IP geolocation databases

The DB-IP Lite databases are a set of free IP geolocation databases,
that can map an IPv4 or IPv6 address to a specific continent, country,
city, and ISP, with varying degrees of accuracy.

They are an alternative to the MaxMind GeoLite2 databases (in Debian as
"geoip-database"), newer releases for which are now non-free. They are
also a less accurate (but free) alternative to the commercially
available DB-IP and MaxMind GeoIP databases.

The databases will be offered in the MMDB file format, an open format
with a number of open source reader and writer implementations,
including libmaxminddb, bindings for a variety of programming
languages.

The data set is volatile, and upstream issues regular releases on a
monthly cadence.
