Bug#700337: RFP: kibana --- heads up: upstream license change to the non-free SSPL
Hi again,
a lot of things and discussions are currently happening around the
license change of ElasticSeach and Kibana. Some of those are probably
also interesting in this context of packaging work of Kibana:

For those who still would like to see Kibana being packaged for
Debian, there's a fork of the old code underway under the previous
license (Apache License 2.0) by AWS and several other companies:

Citing from that bug report:
MongoDB has submitted the license to OSI for review[2]; the
discussion there is still ongoing, but the initial response seems to
be negative.
That application process got withdrawn by the license steward from
MongoDB due to mainly negative feedback:
http://lists.opensource.org/pipermail/license-review_lists.opensource.org/2019-March/003989.html
But Elastic's move to SSPL seems to have triggered an explicit
statement of the OSI on the SSPL: https://opensource.org/node/1099 —
And the headline is quite clear: "The SSPL is Not an Open Source
License"
That statement sparked quite some discussion on Twitter:
