Bug#918013: O: vlan -- user mode programs to enable VLANs on your ethernet devices
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA256
I intend to orphan the vlan package.
With today’s uploads, I finally have removed the old vconfig binary
replacing it with a shell script that runs ip(8). I don’t think much
maintenance will ever be needed for it, but I think it’s better to stop
pretending anyone actually *really* maintains the package, and maybe
someone will take it over once it’s obvious it’s been like that for some
time.
I talked to Ard, and he agrees orphaning this package is an appropriate
move.
The package description is:
This package contains the user mode programs you need to add and remove
VLAN devices from your ethernet devices.
.
A typical application for a VLAN enabled box is a single wire firewall,
router or load balancer.
.
You need a VLAN Linux kernel for this. Linux kernel versions >= 2.4.14
have VLAN support.
