Thank you, I understand :-) Best of luck with the chaos!

I filed RFS Bug #868001
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=868001

You can pull from here:
ssh://git.debian.org/git/collab-maint/btrfsmaintenance.git

And here is the package on mentors:
https://mentors.debian.net/package/btrfsmaintenance

It installs the service as disabled by default but includes a
README.Debian that shows how to enable it. IIRC this is consistent
with smartmontools and the principle of least surprise, because at
some point a package will Recommend btrfsmaintenance and all IO heavy
jobs impact interactivity even when ioniced. When considering
an alternative "disabled by default" I chose not to diverge from
upstream's /etc/default/btrfsmaintenance, because we are barely into
the Buster release cycle ;-)

At some point I'd like to include more detailed recommended
configuration examples, including SSD-specific configuration and/or
autoconfiguration.

Take care,
Nicholas
