Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: packages@release.debian.org
Package: lsb-release-info
Maintainer: Debian Release Team <packages@release.debian.org>
Description: ships release information in /etc/lsb-release
This package ships /etc/lsb-release, which contains information about
the version of the distribution this package was installed from. See
/usr/share/doc/lsb-release-info/README for a description of the format
of that file.
.
Please note that the information contained in this file could be *not*
representative of the actual distribution installed in the system,
since it may be installed from a newer or older release than the rest
of the system, or the system may be a mixture of more than one version
of the distribution.

Having this package was first proposed by Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña
[here][1], and revived by [this recent thread][2]. I will upload a
version to unstable with version 99, and later on a version to t-p-u
with version 4.0+lenny. Right before the release of lenny we will upload
to t-p-u again with the final version number; stable point releases are
expected to get an updated version via s-p-u as well.

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new
discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it!) but "That's funny..."
