* Package name    : 3270font (fonts-3270)

  Upstream Author : Ricardo Bánffy <rbanffy@gmail.com>

* License         : BSD3
  Programming Lang: fontforge .sfd
  Description : monospaced font based on IBM 3270 terminals

 This font is derived from the x3270 font, which, in turn, was translated
 from the one in Georgia Tech's 3270tool, which was itself hand-copied
 from a 3270 terminal.
 .
 While looking reasonably close to its bitmap ancestors, this is a vector
 font that looks good at any size. Its recommended use is, obviously, a
 text terminal, same as nearly half a century ago.

There's a bitmap version in the archive already: (xfonts-x3270-misc,
non-free), although PCF fonts are not configured by default for use with any
toolkits from this millenium. Ricardo Bánffy's version is free, works with
modern technology, and has a number of improvements.

The conversion from bitmap used an eight-direction algorithm rather than the
usual squares, fitting the font's design (lots of diagonals). There's also
a number of manual tweaks after that.

This package is a dependency of cool-retro-term, although a terminal font
has no lack of usefullness on its own.
