Hi,

Quoting the README of the libmaxminddb[1]:
> The libmaxminddb library provides a C library for reading MaxMind DB
> files, including the GeoIP2 databases from MaxMind. This is a custom

> allowing for great flexibility in the type of data associated with an
> address.

This is now the de facto format for the GeoIP (and GeoLite) databases.

The library is licensed under the Apache License, version 2.

CC'in the geoip maintainer in case he wants to take this RFP as this is 
basically the continuation of what he is maintining.
