The Very Simple Control Protocol can be used to automate most equipment and the package VSCP & Friends contain tools to make this easy. The VSCP daemon can be used to set up automation environments. The VSCP Works graphical application can configure, investigate and update firmware for remote nodes. A websocket interface and a built in webserver makes it very easy to create lightweight user interfaces.
