I see.  I found it ugly to even need to repack the tarball since
this way it stops being ORIG.tar.gz.  And I'd try to indicate that
the tarball is not original by altering the filename somehow.
But I wont do this with current 0.7a release for sure.

Besides, do you know what's up with Volker Ruppert?  His regular
domain, vruppert.de, appears to be gone from the 'net...
