Ok, that's perfectly fine: we have already established a constructive
communication channel and that's one of the most important part in the
relationship between upstream author and packagers.

Not a big problem, I think we can just refer to that file and indicate
it contains the image files.

I added this information into the debian/copyright file.

Do you already have a plan when you'll release a new version with the
changes we're discussion? We will use this new version to upload the
package in debian, since it will include the correct license info (you
know, legal stuff...).
