Bug#600371: RFA: phpwiki -- informal collaborative website manager

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the phpwiki package.

I'm actually willing to stay on as a co-maintainer, but the package needs a
huge amount of work to be fit for release and continued inclusion in Debian
that I think it's best for someone else to take it on completely if they are
interested.

The primary issue is that the PHPwiki upstream development is extremely slow,
and there are a number of issues in the codebase (embedded libraries mainly)
which aren't going to be addressed upstream in the near future and need someone
with significant time to patch around for Debian.

The current package has a RC bug since it doesn't work at all with PHP5.3,
there is a release candidate for phpwiki 1.4 (1.4.0rc1) available upstream
which fixes this. The final release was meant to be "real soon" as of Aug 4,
but hasn't materialised yet. I've been holding off packaging 1.4.0rc1 in favour
of the real release, but even if we were to package 1.4.0rc1 the embedded
library issues remain and I don't have time to do all the patcing myself.

So please let me know if you're interested in taking over this package,
otherwise I plan to file a bug to have it removed from the archive sometime
next week.

The package description is:
PHPWiki is a reimplementation in PHP of the wiki engine behind the
 original WikiWikiWeb at http://c2.com/cgi-bin/wiki?WikiWikiWeb.
A wiki is a dynamic website which can be edited by anyone at any time.
Over time bad information is naturally filtered out, since the barrier to
modification is very low. Malicious or accidental destruction is limited
by keeping backup versions of all pages.
 .
This package includes introductory material for the wiki
concept, which can be viewed via the wiki interface when the package has
 been installed.
