Bug#545770: RFP: elim (and garak) -- Emacs libpurple integration (C daemon and elisp client)

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name : elim (and garak)
  Version         : 20090702-032501
  Upstream Author : Vivek Dasmohapatra <vivek@etla.org>
* URL             : http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/elim
* License         : GPL3+
  Programming Lang: C, elisp
  Description : Emacs libpurple integration (C daemon and elisp client)

ELIM is an elisp instant messenger daemon (using libpurple), with a
sexp based control protocol. It comes with a reference implementation
of a client library (elim.el) and a reference IM client (garak.el)
built on top of that.

                                * * *

This provides IM (and IRC) in Emacs using purple (pidgin), which has
orders more mindshare than bitlbee or jabber-el. I therefore expect
it to grow features and fix bugs more rapidly. For example, of the
three only garak supports in-band XMPP registration/subscription.
