[John has rewritten hg-buildpackage in Haskell in the meantime]

John, I've just found the time to look at your implementation. I'd love
to see a full-fledged hg-buildpackage in Debian. As mq support is
essential to my current workflow, I'm also willing to invest some time
into merging this feature into your implementation. Unfortunately, my
enthusiasm doesn't go as far as to learn a new programming language to
this end, so your switch to Haskell essentially cuts me out.
(Incidentially, not being able to fix problems myself was one of the
reasons that drove me off darcs and darcs-buildpackage.) That said, I'm
quite sure that Haskell is a nifty language and certainly understand
your reasons to prefer it. But currently, I'm lacking the time to wrap
my brain around monads and therefore don't think I'll be able to
collaborate on your project.

Regards,

Daniel.
