Roadnav works like an in-car navigation system. Roadnav obtains
present location from a GPS unit, plots street maps of the area, and
provides verbal turn by turn directions to any location in the USA. It
is licensed under the GPL.

available for download at http://roadnav.sourceforge.net/downloads.php
. This would be a great addition to the Debian system.
