I think you need to mention "Chinese" here.  May I suggest:

As I understand, this use ZhuYin as its base. The phonetic method used
in Taiwan.  (I understand PinYin is used in Mainland (PRC).)

These facts need to be mentioned.  Otherwise, it is difficult for me to
understand what it does.
