bmf seems rather dead upstream. The last release was in 2002, and it has had no CVS commits since then, according to the sourceforge statistics: http://sourceforge.net/project/stats/index.php?report=months&group_id=63555 bogofilter seems to provide substantially the same functionality, is actively maintained, and is already packaged in Debian.
