Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I no longer have time to maintain fetchmail in Debian, thus I'm
orphaning it.

This package is made of two parts :=20

 - fetchmail itself, a monolithic and rather buggy C program, which
need a lot of upstream cleanup. Maintaining it demands some C
skills and a thorough knowledge of IPC, signals, network
   programming, etc. ;

 - fetchmailconf, a large but well written Python program. It should
not require a large knowledge of Python as it is very maintainable
   and very stable.

Upstream maintainer is a nice fellow provided you send patches to him,
so maintaining fetchmail requires that the Debian maintainer fixes
some bugs by itself. Upstream development list is usually responsive
and should be of help.

The most important is that this package requires a lot of social
skills and patience with users and fellow developers as some bugs may
require coordination to track them down.

I can provide a tarball of my CVS repository upon request.

Cheers,
Benjamin
