Bug#219582: I am interested in seeing this package go into Debian.

Robert,

Having just read the ITP of the package 'linux', I have to voice my approval
for such a package.

I've been contemplating something very much identical to what you have
proposed, and so I would like to see what this package can do.

I see Daniel Jacobowitz's concerns, and they're probably the reason why I
haven't tried to ITP anything yet: I was going to attempt to build some
packages privately for my 5 architectures before announcing anything.

Having used Red Hat at work for 13 months now, previous to that I'd never
touched it, I have to say the Red Hat kernel package is very well designed.
Yes, just one kernel package. It manages to upgrade cleanly and safely and
rolls back to a previous version if there's an error.

I don't use any Debian packaged kernels. There are a ridiculous number of
them for even just one architecture, and despite that there's always another
patch that I'd want. Having a single kernel package that tries to
incorporate as many of these useful kernel-patches as possible would be a
good thing.

So, please go ahead with your packaging. Put them up in a private
repository if you have to, to get the naysayers off your back -- for how
will you be able to test any of the problems that they've raised if you don't
try it?
