Bug#184224: RFP: txl -- A programming language for source transformations

Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2003-03-10
Severity: wishlist

* Package name    : txl
  Version         : FreeTXL 10.2
  Upstream Author : support@txl.ca
* URL             : http://www.txl.ca/
* License         : see below
  Description : A programming language for source transformations

>From the website, "TXL is a unique programming language
specifically designed to support computer software analysis
and source transformation tasks. It is the evolving result
of more than fifteen years of concentrated research on
rule-based structural transformation as a paradigm for the
rapid solution of complex computing problems."

License: FreeTXL 10.2 is freely downloadable but not in
source form.  From the FAQ:

  # Is there an open source implementation of TXL?

   For TXL 10, the first answer is no. The OpenTXL project,
   which produced FreeTXL 10.2, is busy working on an open
   source implementation of TXL, but it may be some time
   before it is ready for public release.

   Meanwhile, at least two older implementations of TXL are
   available in source form: TXL 7.4 is a portable C
   implementation of TXL 7 for Unix platforms, and TXL-3 is
   a Modula 3 port of TXL 7.4.

(those two things mentioned in the paragraph are linked to)

NB I tried to install FreeTXL 10.2 from the script and it
didn't work - it turns out you have to do

    mv bin/txli bin/txl

before running the installation script.
