Subject: RFP: PPMZ2 -- A Prediction by Partial Match (PPM) compressor (archiver)
Package: wnpp
Version N/A; reported 2003-02-04
Severity: wishlist

* Package name : ppmz2
Version: 0.8
Upstream Author : "Charles Bloom" <cbloom@cbloom.com>

Description: PPM (Prediction by Partial Match) is a classic compression
algorithm. PPM predicts the probability of a given character based on the
characters that immediately precede it (see also Markov Chains and Context
Modeling). PPMZ is an efficient version of PPM that uses. PPMZ2 is Charles
Bloom's (the author of PPMZ) next version of PPMZ. This archiver should be
better than gzip, bzip2, and zip at compressing files.

Notes: Discussion on debian-legal about the BPL license is at:

and

A Linux version of PPMZ is linked to off of the web page for this program.
