Description:
Replacement for sysklogd.
.
Contains the syslogd daemon that gathers messages from various
sources and routes them according to its configuration. The
code for input and output is entirely in modules, this makes
it incredibly flexible and extensible.
.
Included input modules are:
* im_unix: old syslog's local method.
* im_linux: read kernel log messages.
* im_udp: old syslog's remote method.
* im_tcp: TCP remote logging.
...new...
* im_file: read messages from a regular file.
.
Included output modules are:
* om_classic: logging to files, programs, terminals (users) or
UDP (network, for im_udp). Ie everything old syslog did.
* om_tcp: TCP remote logging.
* om_peo: cryptographically protects your logfiles so you know
if somebody manipulated them even if the intruder became root.
* om_regex: Filtering of messages by regular expressions.
* om_mysql: Logging to a remote MySQL database (needs libmysqlclient10).
* om_pgsql: Logging to a remote PostgreSQL database (needs libpgsql2.1).
...new...
* om_refract: a refraction filter that prevents to frequent refiring.
* om_directory: each message is written to a separate file in a directory.

msyslog was removed from Debian
| From: "Arthur Korn" <arthur@korn.ch>
| Because of ongoing reliability issues msyslog won't be usable
| for some time. syslog-common was a nice idea, didn't catch on
| though.

Subject: Bug#167349: fixed
Date: Tue, 05 Nov 2002 11:56:52 -0500
To: 167349-close@bugs.debian.org
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:
msyslog | 2:1.08a-5 | source, ia64, s390, sparc, powerpc, mipsel, mips, m68k, i386, arm, hppa, alpha
syslog-common | 0.9 | source, all
Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.
Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems.
Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 167349@bugs.debian.org.
This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is
a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing
ftpmaster@debian.org.
