I'd like to suggest making a package for OpenVPN 1.1
(http://openvpn.sourceforge.net/). OpenVPN is a VPN program with a
custom protocol that runs over UDP. It utilizes OpenSSL and the tun
device. Except for access to the tun device, it requires no further
privileges, works accross firewalls and NAT, and is trimmed for both
fault-tolerance and maximum security. I use it successfully to tunnel
traffic between my Linux box (running Debian potato w/ a custom
kernel that has tun support) and my Mac OS X laptop. Compiling it on
the Debian machine worked out of the box.
