Bug#132878: wnpp: ITP: ploticus -- template driven system for informational plots]

Package: wnpp
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist

* Package name      :  ploticus
  Version           :  2.02
  Upstream Author   :  Stephen C. Grubb  <scg@jax.org>
* URL               :  http://ploticus.sourceforge.net
* License : GPL: also link against libgd, which has a GPL
                    : compatible license and libfreetype6 which also
		    : has a GPL compatible license.
  Description       :  Ploticus is script-driven, using a non-procedural
         language, which makes it suitable for automated, unattended
         uses, or for applications that will be run again and again.
         This can be very useful for web sites. In general, ploticus
         is good at making graphs like you would see in newspapers and
         news magazines, business publications, journals for medical
         and social sciences, and so on.

	 Ploticus is not a function or mathematical plotting package
	 like gnuplot, nor would it be a good choice for applications
	 where mathematical formulas or scientific notations are to be
	 rendered as an integral part of the data display. Ploticus
	 is also not intended as a "marketing" graphics package. Its
	 goal is to display data crisply without extra decoration and
	 distracting "dingbats" that cloud the picture. Thus there is
	 little support for 3-D effects, gradient backgrounds, and so on.

	 Ploticus can generate bar charts, stacked bar charts, line
	 charts, histograms, best fit charts, and vertical bar charts
	 from "prefabs". Many other chart types can be generated by
	 defining custom templates.

	 Ploticus can output jpeg, png, SVG, and postscript. Ploticus
	 can simultaneously create imagemaps for web usage.

	 Documentation is extensive. It will be released as a companion
	 ploticus-doc package.
