Description : Dumps kernel crash information to disk on system crash
>From the web page:
"
The Linux Kernel Crash Dump (LKCD) project is designed to meet the
needs of customers and system administrators wanting a reliable method
of detecting, saving and examining system crashs. [...] LKCD is an
attempt to move Linux towards greater supportability.
LKCD contains kernel and user level code designed to:
* Save the kernel memory image when the system dies due to a software
failure;
* Recover the kernel memory image when the system is rebooted;
* Analyze the memory image to determine what happened when the failure
occurred.
"
LKCD consists of both kernel patches and user mode utilities. I have
not used it myself, but I *have* had the need for it (I am unable to
find out why my laptop keeps crashing :-().
The developers seem to be mostly people from IBM and SGI.
