Unfortunately, there is no way for wanna-build to know in advance which
version the binary packages will have, as binary packages are allowed to
use a different version than the source once. Therefore it needs to take
some assumptions and as a consequence doesn't handle properly take-over
with different versions. As you pointed out, once there is a binary
package in the archive, it is able to take better assumptions.

Another alternative is to contact the wanna-build team, we can manually
fix that, which i just did for debian-ports.
