Liberally snipping here, and I've only caught that portion of the discussion
that's crossed over to -vote, as I'm not subscribed to -devel.  Also IANADD,
just a user for the past 4 years or so.
John, I have one question on the paragraph below:

OK, now I'm really confused. Are you saying that you're not attempting to
have non-free removed from the debian.org domain? I agree with you, that
being in debian.org doesn't mean it has to be associated with the
distribution. But, it almost sounds like you're agreeing, at least in
principle, with Anthony Towns' proposed ammendment. Or do you mean that a
non-free.debian.org would satisfy you, but being on ftp.debian.org wouldn't?
It all seems like semantics to me, but if that is the view you're taking,
then this might be a point of comonality to start with to get to a more
meaningful discussion.
