One would have to give it a thorough test with the various use
cases which involve cdrecord / wodim.
(The use cases where cdrskin is clearly better suited than wodim are
in K3B normally handled by growisofs.)

When i explored K3B 20 years ago, i had to enable cdrskin usage in
K3B's list of helper programs.

Brasero can use libburn and libisofs directly.
I think these backends are default in Debian for most use cases.
  https://packages.debian.org/unstable/libbrasero-media3-1

Not handled by libburn and libisofs according to
  https://packages.debian.org/unstable/brasero-cdrkit
are
  * Audio CD burning with CD-Text information
  * Video DVD creation
The former would be doable with libburn since version 1.2.0 of 2012.
The latter demands genisoimage option -udf which is not planned to be
ever implmented by libisofs.

Have a nice day :)
