If I recall correctly, there's been a feud going on between the author of cdrecord and the debian maintainer for quite some time.
Issues with cdrecord are described in <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cdrtools> Jörg Schilling died in 2021. The project is currently hosted at <https://codeberg.org/schilytools/schilytools/>It seems, development is not really active, but there are some recent commits.
The openSUSE team decided that they may ship original cdrtools instead of the cdrkit fork.
