Is there anything in ~/.xsession-errors or in Xorg.0.log? I would not 
concentrate namely on errors, low priority messages from systemd user 
session may be helpful as well. Last messages before beginning of 
session stop phase might be most interesting.

May it happen that some security fixes in CIFS/samba cause issues with 
special files like sockets that some components may create in user home 
directories?
