I had found those posts, but they all seemed to be solved (there were
gtk3 cups files in the listed location, as were gtk4 cups files, and
colord is running fine), and thus none of those solved my issue

> Does starting affected programs from the terminal with strace shed any light on what's (not) happening?

There is too much polling & other chatter in strace, so if there is,
it's hidden.
