Which does leave those of us who don't use systemd out in the cold.
Sadly, this is (IIRC from when I saw something related to this brought
up before) one of the cases where the maintainer of the relevant package
has no interest in bothering with anything related for support for
non-systemd environments, so...

Again IIRC, there were the beginnings of noise about possibly creating
an orphan-cron-[something]s package, analogously to the
orphan-sysvinit-scripts package - but AFAIK that hasn't gone anywhere.
