black screen on installer grub menu

Hi,

Long time debian user, infrequent caller. Anyhow, I have been experiencing black screens with the installer since trixie rc2. By installer, I mean any of iso's written to usb stick and booted uefi. I have tried this with:

debian-trixie-DI-rc2-amd64-DVD-1.iso
debian-live-13.0.0-amd64-standard.iso
and their netinst cousins.

What happens is I stick the burned thumb drive into a usb port, and attempt to boot from it. I get two beeps and then nothing, black screen. The menu is navigable with the keys - press enter and the graphical installer boots or the live system starts - depending on which iso and what the default menu item is. Other items can be selected using the arrow keys and pressing enter, including the advanced sub menu, and it's submenus. It's just that the grub menus are MIA and I'm left to look up what the menu is supposed to look like, in order to navigate.

Now, the gui installer, the tui installer, the rescue environment, etc. all work fine with the display and after install, everything is hunky dory. But, I'd really like to see the grub menu displayed.

The two systems exhibiting this behavior are my Lenovo Thinkpad T430 w/Core i5, and my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 with dual Nvidia and Core i7. Other OS installers (Mint, Ubuntu, Windows, Open Suse, Manjaro, MX, etc) work fine, as does the Debian 12 installer.

Legacy mode bios grub menu works fine, but UEFI is all black screen.

I'm happy to provide additional info or try stuff.

I'm loving my trixie installs otherwise.

Thanks,

Will
