If you revisit my OP it should be evident that's what I did. The answer I was
hoping for is some method of using dpkg, apt* or some other packaging utility I'm
unaware of to force reinstallation of the problem package's content. I didn't spot
anything in dpkg or apt-get man page, but those expeditions make me dizzy, easily
able to glance by a needed solution.
