I thought the process would be something like: new version is downloaded, then compiled and a deb package is created (and some tests are run).

The current version in trixie of CUPS filters is from January 2023. I don't understand why this is happening.
Can someone please explain why this is happening?

There is a Point Release scheduled for this weekend. Perhaps you will get the packages you want.

Also, there's my farm boy approach:

... change your sources to Sid, refresh, install the newest gadgets you want, then revert your sources to Stable.... without doing Anything more (don't upgrade).

It does work.
