Purely FOSS, not purely nouveau.

That language is simply stating which proprietary (non-free) kernel driver is/was
applicable to his particular GPU.

On 2025-08-30 17:23 +0200 he wrote: "I didn't experiment with NVIDIA drivers but
stuck to nouveau." I took note, and have no idea whether working 340 drivers ever
even existed for Bookworm. He may have had no other choice but pure FOSS.

Odds are if he stuck to FOSS in Bookworm that there was no manual configuration
applied. With FOSS, automatic configuration has been working well enough for most
people for many many moons. OTOH, Apple has uncommonly done anything to facilitate
using software that it didn't provide on its Macs. Also, his C79 was a last of its
kind hardware, no more x86+ motherboard chipsets from NVidia. Development based
upon it halted, so any bug appearing on it in time since gets a good chance at no
attention from those capable.
