Such a feature should have never been enabled by default. At least
under X11 since as you say, for Wayland:

Note that's more due to the way selections work under X11 and Wayland.
Even if an application is sandboxed under X11 in a usual way, it will
be able to see the selection. Or one would have to start the sandbox
with its own X server (e.g. --x11=xephyr with firejail?), but with
consequences on the usuability of the application itself.
