Let's have some facts then. Please show us the output of:
$ env | grep XDG_
Particularly of interest will be the values of:
XDG_SESSION_DESKTOP=gnome
XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME
