It's extremely unlikely that the appearance of the mouse pointer
would have anything to do with the mouse hardware.  Hell, you could
probably *unplug* the mouse and it wouldn't change the pointer's
appearance.

The pointer's appearance is decided by the "window" (graphical element)
that currently has Focus.  And Focus is decided by the Window Manager in
conjunction with whatever applications are running.  It may be based on
the exact position of the mouse cursor, or by the state of the running
application which owns the window that most recently had Focus.

Anyway, since none of us know anything about your appliction, it's
unlikely we can offer you much help here.  You'd be much better off
contacting whatever support community this application has.
